Fancy

Fancy, Machine Quilting
Fancy Red Ribbon
A combination of piecework and collage, beginning with Laura Heine's flamingo collage pattern, adding the coral delectable mountains border, a small purple border, and ending with a large coral outer border. The piece features my first attempt at collage and delectable mountains. It proudly highlights the custom machine quilting done by my best friend.

Artist Statement
Recently retired, I searched local organizations to fulfill my dream of quilting. [Turns out I love piecing but would rather “quilt by check.”] One group introduced Laura Heine collage designs, but I had no wall space. Thus, with upstairs bedroom in mind, I undertook the flamingo as a bed cover.
The group shared fabrics, so it was much fun choosing the motifs. As she took shape, I became more excited adding each one. Delectable mountains were also new to me but fit nicely in the first border. My love of purple sparked her as well in the small border. Finally, the machine quilting done by my BFF brought her to life!
As I stood back looking at this unique quilt, I heard her say, “Fancy is my name.” Well, “Fancy don’t let me down.” * Mama wants to take you uptown!
