Stars & Stripes

Stars & Stripes , Machine Quilting
Stars & Stripes White Ribbon
Stars and Stripes was made by alternating the Sawtooth Star and pieced with scraps from previous quilts and projects. The quilt is made with 100% prewashed material. Inspired by the star gazing while on lockdown through COVID-19. Scraps were used because of missing the shop hops and need to use up the leftovers. The Sawtooth star was made with flying geese. The stripes by pulling out of basket the and randomly piecing them together.

Artist Statement
As a healthcare worker having to work the frontline, I found solace in piecing this quilt. The stars represent our healthcare workers who are present day and night through celebrations and tragedies such as the pandemic. The stars are our hope and strength. The stripes of various colors, patterns and widths represents the diversity in each of us, the changes and challenges each day has brought. Some days bright and colorful, others dark and sad, similar to our daily lives as we have persevered through this past year. The quilting pattern "Meandering" was chosen to symbolize our path through life; especially as we traveled the uncharted path of COVID-19. We travel forward but then take a turn and travel back having to keep going and finally making progress to the end. The end of a life, the end of day, or a moment, especially to the end of COVID-19.
